enough, sufficient but not plenty.

a concept. nothing is ever enough. it’s always too much or too little, too loud or too quiet, too painful or too painless. my theory is that enough doesn’t exist. we as humans look for it when we try to find purpose in life, chase success, fame, money and wealth. we’re all so scared of being insufficient that it becomes who we are. we become consumed by our fear of inadequacy that we become inadequate. every marketing scheme proves to you that there’s an aspect of your life that isn’t enough and that a certain product will make your life enough. it’s all one twisted game that we participate in unconsciously AND consciously. i am no different. that is why it hurts when i’m depressed, it hurts when i’m sad because i feel insufficient. depression isn’t an overwhelming sadness, it’s the realization that in and of ourselves we are everything but enough. we can be anything, what we can never be is enough. enough is subjective and what is enough for you might not be what is enough for me. that is why we can never all be enough. so why chase it so bad? why hold on? because we’ve been taught to think that that’s the value of life. but nowhere is it written that we have to be enough. it’s not set in stone. so why chase it?

the fear of inadequacy is worse than inadequacy itself.
